Long Tom Watershed Council is hosting a gathering at Bennett Vineyards & Wine Company on Friday, May 3 to host a tour of the recent habitat restoration work at the vineyard and celebrate their newly announced award from Salmon-Safe!
Food will be available for purchase from Kico's BBQ food truck, and we’ll have live music from the Eugene Barnstormers!
Bennett Vineyards is co-hosting this pubic event! Join your fellow watershed neighbors for wine, BBQ, and casual conversation. A project tour for any interested, led by LTWC fish biologist Jed Kaul, will meet at the tasting room parking lot and go from around 6 - 7 p.m.
Last year, the Bennetts partnered with LTWC to improve wetland, upland, and streamside habitat. Log jams were placed along a one-mile stretch of Bear Creek to improve habitat complexity, create deep pools, and provide spawning habitat for trout. We also excavated three shallow, seasonal pools for pond turtle habitat, and then this last winter, we planted 16 acres of streamside habitat. Two years ago, we replaced a fish passage barrier with a bridge over Bear Creek. Learn about this and more on the project tour!
Bennett Vineyards is also receiving the Hero of Salmon award for 2019, which is awarded to growers that best represent Salmon-Safe’s habitat restoration and biodiversity enhancement goals. Congratulations to owners Gene and Lisa Bennett for this tremendous accomplishment!
We hope to see you on May 3 for an evening of live music, wine, BBQ, and celebration!
